# Closing your account

> How to close your STX account, what has to happen first, and how to take a break from trading instead.

If you no longer want to use STX, you can ask to close your account.

Before an account can be closed, it must have no open orders and no open positions, and its balance must be withdrawn. Cancel any open orders, close or wait for the settlement of any positions, and [withdraw your funds](https://help.stxapp.io/articles/deposits-withdrawals-and-fees/) first.

## How to close your account

- **In the app:** open your profile settings and follow the steps to close your account.
- **Through Customer Support:** [contact Customer Support](https://help.stxapp.io/contact/) from the email address on your account and ask to close it.

## Taking a break instead

If you want a break rather than closing your account, you can set a [cool off period](https://help.stxapp.io/articles/cool-off-period/), [self-exclude](https://help.stxapp.io/articles/self-exclusion/), or set [trading limits](https://help.stxapp.io/articles/trading-limits/).
